Outside the temple is a bell house which contains a 5 foot high, three ton brass bell, called bon-sho (sacred bell). The bell was made in Japan and closely resembles the bell hanging in the bell house of the original temple in Kyoto, Japan. The resonate sound of the bon-sho creates an atmosphere of tranquility that travels some distance throughout the valleys.
Inside the temple is Amida, a golden Buddha more than 18 feet tall. This amazing work of art is an original sculpture carved by the famous Japanese sculptor, Masuzo Inui.
The Byodo-In is located in the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park in Kaneohe, Hawaii. It is situated in the shadows of the majestic Ko'olau Mountain range and is surrounded by beautiful koi ponds.
