August is an amazing time to be in the Hawaiian Islands. In particular, August is the month that we celebrate the legacy of one of Hawaii's most famous watermen: Duke Kahanamoku. "The Duke" was credited with spreading the sport of surfing around the world. He was also an Olympic swimmer, Olympic gold medalist, canoe steersman, Hollywood actor and Sheriff of Honolulu.

Every year during the month of August, Hawaiian people pay tribute to The Duke and his love for the ocean at the Annual Duke's OceanFest. This year is the 12th Annual Duke's Oceanfest and the festivities begin tomorrow. The event will run from Saturday, August 17, through Sunday, August 25, 2013. This year's events include:
